Modern complex lies unused

Desk Report: The construction work of an auditorium-cum-community centre was completed nearly two years ago but it is yet to be opened due to absence of a connecting road in Ishwarganj upazila, reports The Daily Star.
Mymensingh Zila Parishad started building the 500-seat complex in 2005 and it was scheduled to be completed in 2008 but due to fund constraint, its work stopped for five times before completion in December 2016, said sources.
The estimate was Tk 1 crore to complete the auditorium near Mymensingh-Kishoreganj road, but due to delays, the construction cost rose around three times higher to Tk 2.75 crore, said Wahiduzzaman, assistant engineer of Mymensingh Zila parishad.
The work has been completed but as there is no connecting road yet and the structure remains unused, he said.
“We have already taken initiative for land acquisition for the auditorium’s connecting road and after completing necessary arrangement, the road construction will be started to make the auditorium usable,” said the engineer.
If the structure is started, it will be used for different programmes, earning a revenue of Tk around 50,000 per month, said Ekram Hossain Bhuiyan, a member of the zila parishad.
