CRC or UNCRC put into effect almost three decades ago while violating the rights of children are being reported in Bangladesh with increasing frequency every day, and most of the occurrences take place introducing ghastly and shocking that bring out inhuman appearance to bear on.
The UN General Assembly approved the Convention and released it for signature on 20 November 1989, on the 30th anniversary of its Declaration of the Rights of the Child. On 2 September 1990 Convention on the Rights of the Child, commonly abbreviated as the CRC or UNCRC, came into force after it was constitutionally consented by the required number of nations. Currently, 196 countries lawfully involved with it. This include every member of the United Nations except the United States.
The violence against children includes abduction, trafficking, killing and rape have been increasing hastily across the country over last few years. The frequency is viciously alarming. Although violence against children in Bangladesh occurs in most cases within the home, in a larger sense it does not originate in the home nor persist only within the home. Instead it goes far beyond the home and family.
Violence ensues within the family, at home, and at schools where children have to face sexual abuse or offence. In particular, girls are exposed to threat of early marriage before attaining physical and psychological maturity. In schools, children are often found to be beaten when they fail to perform the petty task.
Humiliating and degrading punishments for minor errors are common phenomenon. The incidents of violence against children appears with trafficking, abduction, rape and even killing. Recently the incidences have increased across the country. Pleading of Child’s physical, mental, spiritual, moral, and social development are pitifully deserted. The rights of every child to a standard of living, inclusion of adequate social advantages are left behind.
Ironically a girl child studying in class one is allegedly raped while this article was being prepared.
With CRC in hand the nation have been witnessing the shocking abuse of children. Painful indeed, regret the Human Rights Defenders of the nation.
