New Islamic alliance formed to support ruling 14-party

    Hossen Sohel: A new alliance named Islamic Democratic Alliance was formed yesterday comprising of 15 political and Islamic organisations to support the ruling 14-party grand alliance.
    The alliance, which was formed with Al-Hajj Misbahur Rahman Chowdhury as its chairperson, aims to protect and ensure development activities of the ruling 14-party alliance, reports The Daily Star.

    The alliance also wants to strengthen the 14-party alliance from the inside and out and to work for the ruling party alliance.

    Misbahur Rahman, also the chairman of Bangladesh Islami Oikkya Jote, announced it at a press conference at a Dhaka hotel today.

    MA Awal, a lawmaker and former secretary general of Bangladesh Tariqat Federation, is the co-chairperson of the alliance while Advocate Mohammad Nurul Islam Khan, chairman of Gonotrantik Islamic Movement, is the secretary general.

    The alliance will hold a mass-rally on the first week of October to share its future plans with the public, said MA Awal.

    Asked about their registration, Misbahur Rahman chowdhury, said that only Tariqat Federation is a registered political party while the others have applied to the EC and are hopeful to get the registration before elections.
