Kabir Humayun: BNP leaders and activists yesterday staged a token hunger strike in Dhaka demanding release of its Chairperson Khaleda Zia and to ensure her better treatment.
The token hunger strike began at 10am and continued till 12noon, reports The Daily Star.
Senior BNP leaders, front and associate bodies’ leaders and hundreds of activists attended the token hunger strike in front of Institute of Engineers’ Bangladesh.
BNP standing committee member Khandker Mosharraf Hossain addressed the hunger strike.
A Dhaka court sentenced the 73-year-old BNP chief to five years’ imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage graft case on February 8.
Since then, Khaleda Zia is behind bars.
Khaleda is now facing 37 more cases. She has secured bail in all but three cases — two in Comilla and one in Dhaka.
