Kabir Humayun: A Dhaka court yesterday granted bail to Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity secretary general Mozammel Hoque Chowdhury in an extortion case.
The transport leader, however, cannot walk out of jail as Kafrul police on Monday appealed to the court to show him arrested in another case filed under the Explosive Act, reports The Daily Star.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mazharul Haque passed the order after Mozammel’s lawyer Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua moved a petition before the court seeking his bail.
Mozammel Hoque, leader of a platform working for passengers’ rights, was arrested from his Sanarpar house in Narayanganj on September 6, two days after the extortion case was filed with Mirpur Police Station.
According to the case statement, complainant Md Dulal alleged that Mozammel, claiming to be a transport leader, demanded Tk 2 lakh from him, and he gave Mozammel Tk 10,000 in front of Sony Cinema Hall in Mirpur on September 3.
He was placed on a day’s remand for interrogation hours after he was arrested.
