Sayeed Muhammad: Gano Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain has today said there will be no political alliance with BNP if it does not part ways with the Jamaat-e-Islami.
“Jamaat is not a political party… We assume that BNP will form alliance with us leaving Jamaat,” he said yesterday.
Dr Kamal, also an eminent lawyer, was addresing a press conference at Jatiya Press Club, Dhaka, reports The Daily Star.
If the party (BNP) wants to forge an alliance severing its ties with Jamaat, Kamal said, they will decide upon the issue and discuss with other stakeholders.
Replying to a query on who will lead the new alliance, he said: “We have forged the alliance together. The leadership should be in a joint manner. I believe in joint leadership.”
He also expressed serious concern over the recent arrest spree of opposition leaders, activists and students.
“A large of number of arrests by plainclothes without warrant is a misuse of the power vested upon the government; and it is also contrary to the constitution of the country.”
He also slammed the government for shifting the trial court of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to Dhaka’s old central jail and denying her proper medical treatment.
