HP coach Helmot backs Mithun to shine

Desk Report: Bangladesh High Performance (HP) head coach Simon Helmot believes that Mohammad Mithun got the potential to replace Sabbir Rahman down the order, reports Daily Asian Age.
After the unexpected exit of Sabbir from the scene for the time being due to his disciplinary issues that earned him a six month ban from international cricket, a sanction that is approved by BCB from September 1, Tigers desperately looking for someone who can do the job at number seven. Helmot, who saw him in the middle during the one-day matches as well as cracking in T20 while coming to open the innings against Ireland firmly believe that his ability to adapt in versatile condition put him well placed to grab a position at the national set-up, where he last played during the tri-national final after the prolonged lean patch of Anamul Haque opened a place for him at the top.

”He can bat anywhere between one and seven for sure,” Simon told the reporters on Saturday. ”I think he is versatile cricketer and he plays well against spin and pace. plays well from back foot and front foot, so he is versatile cricketer and he keeps as well and I am pleased with fellow like Mithun, who did so well and find himself on the Asia cup squad,” he said.

Earlier, Mithun who played 3 ODIs and 13 T20Is said that he is prepared himself for every situation. He is also ready to take the challenge of finishing the game on a high note. “You can’t focus on your own choice when the team needs you. Every person has a goal in life, but not everything will be filled. I have to be prepared for all positions for the sake of the team.

“No matter which position I am batting at, I will try to give 100 percent and I will take care that the team is getting the advantage,” Mithun said. He batted with lot of authority during the match scenario sessions that indicates he is adapting to the new place that he is expected to fill in Dubai.

Simon said that he is looking forward to work extensively so that they can leg-spinner scarcity of the country can be reduced but added that wrist spinners need to be backed as well. Modern day cricket is dominated by the leg spinners across formats as all the leading teams of the world try to bolster their strength by including a wrist-spinner.

Young leg-spin prodigy Jubair Hossain looked to have brought some breath of fresh air when he was introduced in the international arena but somehow could not live up to the expectations. ”That’s definitely an area which we want to improve upon and speaking to our coaches, we are going to look far and wide through Bangladesh, to find our next best leg spinner,” Helmot told reporters at Mirpur.

“We have got an young fellow in Rishad, we have got one or two here and there and obviously Tanbir, Likhon,” he said. ”Look leg spinners aren’t drop out the sky. It’s the same in every country. So we do need to find some good leg spinners,” he added.

Helmot believe that leg spinners need to be backed so that they can gain confidence in their own ability contrary to the prevailing system in place at the domestic where they are ignored like piece of nuts.

“But these guys need to perform consistently in these programs as well as in the domestic cricket. And they need to get opportunity in the domestic cricket. That’s a key factor. If they don’t games, It’s very hard to get a game for the country,” said Helmot.
