Abrar Hussain: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi and West Bengal Chief Minister (CM) Mamata Banerjee jointly inaugurated the HVDC (2nd Block) Station at Bheramara in Kushtia yesterday.
The power station has been set up for importing an additional 500MW of power from India.
The Bangladesh and Indian Prime Ministers also jointly inaugurated the rehabilitation of Kulaura- Shahbazpur section of Bangladesh Railway.
Hasina and Modi, along with Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Dey, later jointly inaugurated the construction work on Akhaura-Agartala dual gauge railway link (Bangladesh portion). The two leaders also inaugurated two more railway projects, reported The Daily Star.
Sheikh Hasina has also expressed hope that India will help Bangladesh implement its plan to import 9,000 megawatt (MW) electricity from the neighboring countries by 2041.
The Bangladesh government recently planned to import the electricity from India, Myanmar, Nepal and Bhutan.
The power transfer from the West Bengal’s Baharampur grid to Kushtia’s Bheramara was inaugurated by the prime minister in Dhaka and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in New Delhi via videoconference.
