Desk Report: Bangladesh pace bowling coach Courtney Walsh said that the pace bowlers need to use their variations in the Asia Cup as the wicket is flat and docile.Bangladesh will begin their campaign with the opening game of the tournament against Sri Lanka at Abu Dhabi on September 15.I don’t think wicket in the Asia Cup is going to be perfect for the pacers,” said Walsh, reports Daily Asian Age.
”I think wicket in Dubai and Sharjah are normally pretty flat and docile and so I am expecting pacers uses their variations a lot more,” said Walsh”I don’t think one day cricket these days prefers wicket for the pace bowlers as everybody wants to see runs being scored,” said Walsh.”That is always a challenge for the pace bowlers because it is not easy on these good batting wickets,” he added. Walsh said that he is confident Tigers pace unit does have the potential to leave a mark at the Asia Cup and added that their performance in West Indies will keep them in good stead ahead of the multi-nation tournament.I am very optimistic. Mash leading the attack, he is a very experience guy and the other guys will follow him,” said Walsh. ”Fizz [Mustafiz] is coming back with full confidence and Rubel [Hossain] is confident as well,” he said. The confidence of winning in West Indies will certainly help them,” he addedWalsh, who had completed two years at the helm of the Bangladesh team, said that he is optimistic Tigers are on the right track but would have liked if they had longer version games.
We have not played a lot of test match cricket so to speak. I think they have definitely made some progress,” said Walsh.
”Unfortunately we have not played a lot of four day game when you go on tour these days, there is some young stars coming through,” said Walsh.”I am hoping that before my time is off I can give Bangladesh cricket a good fast bowling back up.”Unfortunately our last tour at the West Indies, we did not make an impact as much as I would have liked,” he said.
Walsh added that he is in favor of giving some young blood more time in the middle instead of protecting them. We have a lot of young guys coming through. if they dont get selected you won’t see how they works. thats one of the thing we probably needs to look at it, we are too afraid to give young guys a chance. if you keep waiting and they dont have any chance to play, the more you play the best chance you have to learn,” said Walsh.”
They going to get more experienced by playing in the middle you know. Sometime you selected them into the team to see what they are made off,” he said.”But if you keep protecting them saying that they are not ready than well then they might never be ready,” he added.
