We’re building smart cities, opening new air routes; we are on ‘move’: PM Modi at Global Mobility Summit

    Wionews: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the first ever Global Mobility Summit (MOVE) at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The event was organized by NITI Aayog.
    The focus of the summit will be on raising awareness about various aspects of mobility and bringing together various stakeholders involved in enhancing mobility across different platforms, news agency ANI reported.
    During his inaugural address, PM Modi underlined the significance of mobility and described it as integral in boosting the economy and for the preservation of the planet.
    “We are in the middle of a new mobility revolution. We have opened new air routes and are reducing travel distance,” PM Modi noted.
    The Prime Minister stated that better mobility can provide better jobs, smart infrastructure and improve the quality of life.
    “Indeed, India is on the MOVE. Our economy is on the MOVE. We are the world’s fastest-growing major economy. Our cities and towns are on the MOVE. We are building 100 smart cities. Our infrastructure is on the MOVE. We are speedily building roads, airports, rail lines and ports,” PM Modi shared.
    “My vision for the future of mobility in India is based on 7 Cs: Common, connected, convenient, congestion-free, charged, clean, cutting-edge,” PM Modi added. The Global Mobility Summit is the first of its kind, with over 2200 participants expected from across the world including leaders from the government, industry, research organizations, academia, think tanks and civil society.
    The Summit, in its inaugural session, will see global CEOs in attendance with 12 more key CEOs in a panel discussion. Union Ministers speaking at various sessions include Nitin Gadkari, Piyush Goyal, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Dharmendra Pradhan, and Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha.
    Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis is expected to speak on Day 2, along with Lt Governor of Delhi, Anil Baijal.
