Desk Report: There is cow milk crisis in different markets in Bauphal upazila of Patuakhali district, reports Daily Observer.
According to the sources, there is a demand for cow milk in different sweat shops as well as homes.
There are about 10 dairy farms in Bauphal. Milk is supplied from these farms to various sweetshops. Sweets traders collect extra milk from the open market.
After collecting the milk of most of the cow, suppliers from Char Basudeb Pasha and Chandradwip union sell it in different markets.
Besides, some farmers bring cow milk for sale in the market.
At present, the field of most crops in the Bauphal upazila has been inundated due to monsoon and tidal water, creating green grass crisis. If grass cannot be provided regularly, cows do not give the same amount of milk.
As a result, milk crisis has been created for the last few days.
Milk businessman Abdul Motaleb of Chandradwip Union said, “I took about 80 liter milk from different farmers’ homes every day and took them to Kalaiya bazaar. I supply milk to some sweet stores. But only 20 liters of milk could be collected per day in last few days. I cannot supply milk to the sweet shop according to their demand.
On Monday, milk sold at Tk 150 per liter in Bauphal market.
Sumaiya, a housewife, said, “I give half liter of milk to my child every day.
I have now bought quarter liter of milk because of price hike.”
Jatin Chandra, a sweet businessman of the municipality, said, “I need 300 liters of milk per day. Everyday 5 dairy farms provided me 200 liters of milk. I buy the remaining 100 liters from the open market. But for a few days due to the crisis of milk, I cannot make sweet according to the demand.”
