Unplanned urbanization causes interrupted power supply: State Ministe

rAbrar Hussain: Unplan-ned urbanization is the primary obstacle in providing uninterrupted power supply in the country, according to State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid, adding that the government has already brought 92% of the total population under electricity coverage.
Hamid made the statment while addressing a roundtable discussion titled ‘Power Roadmap: Target 2021’ organised by the Daily Sun and held at East West Media Group Limited (EWMGL) conference room at Bashundhara residential area in the capital yesterday.
Almost 60% of high-end residential areas like Gulshan, Banani and Baridhara have become commercialized. So, calculating the actual demand and providing uninterrupted power supply are challenging, said the minister.
He claimed the global energy market scenario is changing fast with no ideas, “So, we’ve to take decisions very cautiously. The government took the decision of importing LNG to keep pace with the staggering energy demand.”
