Minister’s son key accused in Jubo League leader murder case

    Raj Abrar: In yet another incident of a minister’s offspring being sued for murder, Mohitur Rahman Shanto, the son of religious affairs minister, has been named as the prime accused in the case filed over the death of a Mymensingh Jubo League leader.
    Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahmudul Islam confirmed the development to Banglanews.
    On July 31, assailants shot, hacked and slaughtered Mymensingh city unit Jubo League leader Sazzad Alam Sheikh Azad alias Azad Sazzad to death in Akua Nazirbari area of Mymensingh sadar upazila.
    Shanto is among 25 people named in the case that Azad’s widow Dilruba Akter Dilu filed with Kotwali Police Station on Friday, following direction from the High Court asking police to register the lawsuit. At least eight other unknown suspected were also sued in the case.
    Two days after the murder, Dilu filed a complaint with the police station, which was not recorded as an FIR, leading to the High Court order causing the police to register the case.
    Meanwhile, Shanto refuted the allegation of being linked to the assassination and claimed that the case was filed only to defame him and his family.
