Int’l community realizing the truth over Rohingya issue

Humayun Kabir, Former Ambassador to USA :
The international community is now realizing the truth over the Rohingya issue. The world is admitting that mass murder and ethnic cleansing were carried out in the Rakhine state of Myanmar. We, on behalf of the forcibly displaced Rohingya people and Bangladesh, have been saying from the very beginning that they way Myanmar is trying to describe the incident does not ring true. In fact, the Myanmar army perpetrated the ethnic cleansing to drive away the Rohingyas from the Rakhine state for good. It is a crime against humanity.

A report released by the UN investigators has accused Myanmar’s military of carrying out mass killings and gang rapes with “genocidal intent”.

The UN report, released on Monday, called for the prosecution of the country’s commander-in-chief, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, and five generals. The crimes it cited after a long inquiry included murder, enforced disappearance, torture and sexual violence “perpetrated on a massive scale”.

Myanmar has been trying to cover up the issue in many ways and dilly-dallying in taking back their nationals from Bangladesh. Now they might realize that the problem will worsen further for them if not resolved logically. Hope that good sense will prevail.

The amicable solution to the crisis lies in taking back the Rohingyas with dignity. It is a crime against humanity and the liability of the crime should be apportioned. The UN report has established the fact. The sooner Mynamar realizes it, the better.
