Clash over soccer leaves farmer dead, scores injured in Kishoreganj

    Banglanews24: A farmer was killed in a clash erupted over a friendly football match, on occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, in Mithamoin upazila of Kishoreganj Friday (August 24).
    At least 25 others were reportedly injured.
    The deceased was identified as Akter Uddin, 55, a farmer in Charkatkhal village under Katkhal union.
    Police and local sources said two groups—Abu Hashim group and Alal group arranged the friendly football match, scheduled to hold on the village mosque field Thursday (August 23) afternoon.
    Members of Alal group allegedly obstructed the Abul Hashim group to join the game. As the situation went heated, followers of both the groups involved in an altercation Friday morning. At one stage, a clash erupted among them carrying local weapons. At least 25 persons sustained injuries while Abul Hashim group’s Akter became critically injured, in the almost hour-long clash.
    He was whisked-off to Mithamoin upazila health complex where the on-duty physician pronounced him dead. The injured were admitted to Mithamoin upazila health complex and Kishoreganj 250-bed General Hospital.

    Additional police have been deployed in the area, to control the situation, Mithamoin Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Alimul Huq told Banglanews.
    The body of the deceased farmer was taken to Kishoreganj 250-bed General Hospital for an autopsy, he added.
