Human traffickers’ ‘godfather’ held in Dhaka

    Kabir Humayun: A godfather of human trafficking gang that trafficked hundreds of Bangladeshis to Malaysia through the Bay of Bengal during 2009 and 2015 was arrested from the capital yesterday.
    Criminal Investigation Department (CID), in a raid at Karwan Bazar in the city, made the arrest of Mohammad Asem, said CID Special Superintendent Molla Nazrul, reports The Daily Star.
    “The bank transactions of Asem and his cohorts primarily suggest the syndicate raked in 20-25 crore,” said Molla Nazrul.
    Mohammad Asem comes from Teknaf upazila and his brother and father work in Malaysia, he told the journalists while briefing at CID headquarters in Dhaka.
    “We went to his house in Teknaf but did not find his relatives,” the CID official added.
