Illinois sues Trump Tower over Chicago River water use

Sabah Mannan: Chic-ago’s Trump International Hotel & Tower is being sued by Illinois’ attorney general Lisa Madigan for allegedly breaking environmental laws. Madigan is a member of the Democratic Party and has been the state’s attorney general since 2003. Her suit claims that the hotel draws and releases nearly 20 million gallons (75m litres) of water everyday from the Chicago River for its air conditioning and ventilation system without necessary permits and ignores the effects of this on the river’s fish population as required by law. Adding to this, it has been found that the property’s required license to release heated water back into the river expired in August 2017.
