Madhuri Dixit set to recreate Madhubala’s iconic song from Mughal-e-Azam

Hindustan Times: Remember the iconic Mohe Panghat Pe Nandlal Chhed Gayo Re from K Asif’s Mughal-e-Azam? As the enigmatic beauty Madhubala swirled to the gentle rhythm of the Naushad composed song, many a cinema lover fell in love with the ‘idea of love’ all over again. Madhubala in her golden and maroon lehenga epitomised beauty, grace and sensuality all at once. That was back in 1960.
Turns out a beauty from another era will recreate the magic of this song once again in an upcoming episode of Dance Deewane. The beauty in question is Madhuri Dixit. Late on Monday, Madhuri took to social media, and said: “Retro feels today on #DanceDeewane”.
Dressed in an orange and silver embroidered lehenga, a maroon coloured choli, jewellery matching those that Madhubala wore in the iconic song (notice the heavy mang tikka), Madhuri is all-smiles at the camera.Makeup artist Mickey Contractor also shared a black-and-white picture of Madhuri in the Mughal-e-Azam get up and wrote: “The gorgeous gorgeous Madhuri Dixit for Dance Deewane in a retro avatar.”In the said song, a coy yet flirty Madhubala as Anarkali is singing for Salim (Dilip Kumar) even as the rest of the court is under the impression that she is merely re-enacting Radha’s playful interaction with Krishna. The song has acquired an extra edge over time as Madhubala and Dilip Kumar had been one-time real-life lovers.
