Bridge demanded to reduce sufferings

    Desk Report: People of Tanggarpara under Charashastadhar union demanded a bridge on Brahmaputra River in the border area of Mymenshingh and Sherpur district to reduce their sufferings, reports Asian Age.
    Locals said, Once Brahmaputra was a big river and many vessels used to run through it. Now the river has turned to a small as a cannel. Influential encroachers occupied most of the parts of the river. They have established many houses, buildings on the grabbed river land. The Brahmaputra River has lost its navigability.
    Absence of bridge, locals voluntarily built a bamboo bridge on the river at their own expense two years ago. This bamboo bridge has turned rickety, causing problem for stakeholders, locals and students.
    They said that if a little concrete bridge can be built them it could be used as a bypass of Nakla, Sherpur, Jamalpur and Mymenshing. As a result people could communicate easily.
    People of Tanggarpara village in Charashastadhar union under Nakla upazila of the district are suffering due to thousand of a concrete bridge on the River.
    Ali Akbar (31) of Charashastadhar village said a road was built in the village by the union parishad a decade ago, but a section of it collapsed one or two year later due to flood, creating a canal that connects with the river.
    ‘We have to face problems while transporting goods over the bamboo bridge,’ said Mutaleb Hosen (45) a small trader of Tanggarpara village.

    Charashastadhar village is 10 kilometers away from the upazila town and 29 kilometers away from Sherpur district town. Students go to Mymenshing and Jamalpur district for education and treatment. Many serious patients die on the way. Female education affected seriously as well for not having bridge here.

    The Asian Age Correspondent visited the area and found people and many students cross the river by the bamboo bridge. Students complained that, they face problems to cross the bridge in rainy season. They said country is developing faster than ever. But the people of the village facing problem for want of a bridge here.

    Charashastadhar Union Parishad Chairman FF Golam Rabbani said, ‘They have submitted an application to Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) for construction of a concrete bridge over the place.’

    Nakla Upazila Chairman AKM Mahabubul Alam Sohagh said, ‘The officials will conduct a feasibility test during the current fiscal year and the report will be sent to the higher authorities concerned.’
