Three private varsities closed

    Desk Report: Three major private universities have been closed for indefinite period after clashes between their students and police over the road safety movement. They are North South University (NSU), East West University (EWS) and BRAC University. Authorities of the universities announced the decision on Monday evening. NSU Proctor Nazmul Ahsan Khan declared the closure while speaking to the demonstrating students at the university campus at around 6:00 pm. He also asked the students to leave the campus before 7:00 pm, some students informed the daily sun. “We are doing the needful to ensure your (students) security. We are working with the police so that you can return home safely.” The NSU proctor told his students. “The university has been declared closed. We will get to know when we will resume academic activities through the university website or emails,” he said.
    However, NSU public relations officer Belal Ahmed said they are yet to declare the closure of the university.

    “Many people contacted me over the phone to know about the issue after coming across a social media post, but the university is yet to be announced closed,” he said.

    In the meantime time, SM Mohiuddin, public relations officer of East West University, said their university would remain closed for the next two days (Tuesday and Thursday) for unavoidable reasons. Faizul Islam, registrar of BRAC University, in a press release said the university would remain closed on Tuesday.
