Desk Report: Manush chhere khapa ray tui muul harabi..,’ and alike philosophical lines’ writer Baul saint Lalon Shah is the creator of many mystic, philosophical songs. In his memory, a sculpture ‘Ektara’, country’s largest of this kind has been opened in Harinakundu upazila of Jhenaidah, birth place of the Baul saint, reports The Observer.
Shaon Sarder, a final year student of Fine Arts department of Rajshahi University, built the sculpture at the estimated cost of Tk 3 lakh which was financed by the upazila parishad.
The ‘Ektara’ sculpture is 22 feet high.
Jhenaidah Deputy Commissioner Saroj Kumar Naath said, “Lalon is the big source of Bengali culture, literature and tradition. This beautiful sculpture will attract the Baul fans across the world. It will represent the culture of Bengali for future generation.”
“It was the demand of the cultural activist of this district and feel proud of this work,” said MA Majid, upazila parisad chairman.
