Liberty of Kissing and the Ongoing Debate

A.S.M Riad Arif, SARRC Silver Jubilee Scholar, South Asian University, New Delhi : One of the very popular Bengali singer and song-writer of Bengali Nachiketa Chakraborty wrote that,
‘It is not an offense to take bribe publicly, but kiss in public is a serious crime’.
We are living in a very turmoil and trouble time. Every day we have to face a different kind of challenges. There a Less political stability, less security of life. People have become fed up to overcome these all in their daily life. Many of them have forgotten to live with a dream of the hectic life. Even they forgot to love.
We all are running in a race. The race that never been stopped. Suddenly, a viral picture remembered us that love is not escaping from the city. Some people are remaining to love. Days ago, I photo went viral in social media where a couple was kissing in front of Teacher-Student Centre of Dhaka University. It was a romantic rainy day, and the picture invites a debate do people have the liberty to kiss in a public place?
While the viral picture meant to highlight the sentiment of ethics and morality. Each society has some moral value, and the scale of morality is determined by the community itself.
But `Question is what morality is? Many Philosophers have been trying to answer it but failed. Simply we define morality as a human attempt to determine what is right and wrong about our actions and thoughts. So every individual has his rights to define moral value. But the society does not agree to give this authority to an individual to determine the definition of morality.
Many argue that in the context of Bangladesh kissing in a public place goes against the moral value which would encourage rape and woman harassment. But the problem is we often mistake to differentiate love and sex. Of course, kiss is the symbol of eternal love. And without Love, nothing would be created.
But there is some social taboo which could be overcome in our society. So many thoughts kiss a corruption even worsts that dowry or bribe.
The viral picture was taken from Dhaka University Area and Dhaka University should be the most progressive place in the county. Dhaka University was founded in 1921 at the time when the Summerhill School was established at England by A. S Neil with a different idea of liberal education in which children could be free from adult authority. Students are free to do anything. They can play games even they can make love. Neill Summerhill School and his idea became famous throughout the world. When the school opened 90 years ago, it considered as a radical alternative to conventional education. Where students themselves made the rules and the lesson was optional. They were free to learn and did anything whatever they want.
And it is proved that the students of Summerhill School are more moral and more human being than the others.
So it’s our individual choice how we would like to interpret the kiss incident at TSC. It depends on how liberal we are! What is our outlook towards the world? How did we see the things around us? But at least we can say a kiss is not corruption, but the fact is the social value considering our geography of sense.
