Record failure in this year’s HSC exams

    Sayeed Muhammad: More than 4.2 lakh students have failed in the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent exams under the 10 education boards this year, making it the highest number of failures in the last seven years.
    Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid on Thursday they would seriously look into the matter of the worsening results. He, however, mentioned that papers were being properly evaluated to ensure the quality of education, reports The Independent. The total number of examinees was 1,288,757 and of them, 429,956 failed compared to 361,659 students failed last year. The number was 304,490 in 2016, 322,742 in 2015, 244,902 in 2014, 257,606 in 2013, 195,694 in 2012 and 190,567 in 2011. Education minister said the education boards had correctly evaluated the answer scripts and the students got what they deserved. “We did not give excess marks or fewer marks to the students. They have got what they deserved. We are giving importance to the quality of education,” he added.
