Afrida Ahmed: The Supreme Court yesterday extended its previous order that stayed the bail granted by High Court to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in Comilla murder case, reports The Daily Star.
However, the apex court asked the High Court to hear and get rid of the rule over the bail in four weeks.
The case was filed due to setting fire to a bus in Comilla’s Chouddagram that killed seven people and injured around 26 people on February 2, 2015.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed yesterday’s order which was followed by a leave-to-appeal petition filed by the government challenging the High Court’s bail order.
The High Court granted six months bail to Khaleda in this case on May 28, this year and passed a rule asking the government to explain why Khaleda should not be granted regular bail in this case. On May 31, the Supreme Court stayed the High Court order of bail.
