Man suspected of killing Bachchcu dies in Munshiganj ‘gunfight’’

    Sayeed Muhammad: The prime suspect in the murder of progressive writer-publisher Shahjahan Bachchu was killed in what the police termed described as “a gunfight” yesterday early hours in Munshiganj.The deceased has been identified Abdur Rahman, 34, with the police claiming him to be a member of extremist outfit, reports The Daily Star.
    He was arrested earlier from Gazipur on June 24.
    Munshiganj District Detective Branch’s officer Md Najrul Islam said they, in order to arrest Abdur Rahman’s cohorts, police accompanied him and raided the Khashmahal-balurchar area under Sirajdikhan upazila.
    According to the police, his cohorts opened gunfire on the law enforcers, forcing the latter to retaliated with gunshots as well. But, Abdur Rahman was caught in the line of firing at one stage of the trade of bullets, thus, ending up dying.
    Sirajdikhan Police Station’s Assistant Sub-Inspector Delowar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Md Hasan and Constable Mosharrof reportedly sustained injuries in the incident.
