Abrar Hussain: Australi-an Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull claimed yesterday that he would “love” Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg to be grilled by Australian lawmakers, after allegations arose that social media giant allowed Chinese smartphone makers access to user data.
There was fresh criticism aimed at Facebook after it confirmed that data was shared with Chinese electronics firms, including Huawei, which has been banned by the US military over cyberespionage concerns.
Canberra has recently taken measures to strengthen its own intelligence capability amid reports of foreign, especially Chinese, political interference.
“Certainly there are a lot of concerns about Facebook — about privacy,” Turnbull told reporters in Brisbane. “I would welcome Facebook coming and testifying before our parliamentary committees.
