Prof. Dr. Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, Chairman, JANIPOP and Vice Chancellor, Begum Rokeya University : The Election Commission is a constitutional body, a sovereign institution. If it decides to adopt EVMs (Electronic Voting Machine), deploy the army or take any other decision, the political parties are obligated to accept those decisions.
I do not know whether the recent announcement by the CEC (Chief Election Commissioner) regarding EVMs and army deployment in the upcoming national elections is a personal decision or by the Commission itself. However, I believe that perhaps the CEC made the announcement to mentally prepare the people, especially as a direct message for those who intend to become candidates.
There are only a few months left before the elections – not many days left. Introducing the EVM process within such a short time might be quite difficult. But it can be done through a piloting process, which would make voting through EVM an uncontestable issue.
