Maulana Farid Uddin Masud, Islamic scholar : Usually, the prices of commodities are higher, which is quite unaffordable for consumers. Traders can profit as much as their business demand. But unlimited profits are not something allowed in Islam. Rather the Muslims are told to keep the market prices under control.
In the golden days of Islam, the prices used to be set on the basis of the demand from the customers, their affordability and the market situation. The practice of increasing prices of essentials in our country during Ramadan is a heinous act. It is condemned as well. Basically, it is teaching of Ramadan to help others. Praying the most is another part of the teaching. But in our country the aim of Ramadan is to make a quick buck by deceiving others and charging excessive prices. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) termed the act so heinous. He said those who reduce work load of their subordinates during Ramadan and in response, they will have their hereafter eased by Allah.
“Ramadan is the month of patience and sympathy. You express sympathy to others,” the Prophet further said. It has to be made sure that the poor enjoy the happiness of Eid and Ramadan.
The outcome of charity during Ramadan gets 70 times higher than usual. The return of troubling others is so severe, whereas it manifolds when it comes to good deeds during Ramadan.
