Nigerian army frees 1,000 Boko Haram captives

Tahmeed Taha: The Nigerian army had rescued more than 1,000 Boko Haram captives in Borno state, northeastern Nigeria, it said on Monday. Military spokesman Texas Chukwu said in a statement that the hostages were mainly women and children. There were also some young men among the hostages, who had been forced to become Boko Haram fighters. This follows the release of over 100 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram in March from Dapchi, in Nigeria’s Yobe State. The hostages were rescued from Walasa, Malamkari, Amchaka and Gora villages of the Bama Local Government Area by the operation which was conducted in conjunction with Cameroonian and Nigerian troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF). The statement said, “Those rescued are receiving treatment at a military facility.”
