Biman driver held with 7kg gold at Dhaka airport

    Sayeed Muhammad: Officials of the Customs department have nabbed a driver for Biman Bangladesh Airlines for allegedly possessing 60 bars of gold weighing around 7 k at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The detainee, Md Billal Hossain, is employed by the national flag-career, Dhaka Customs House Deputy Commissioner Othello Chowdhury told bdnews24.com. Billal attempted to drive a microbus through the airport’s Gate No. 8 when he was stopped by the Dhaka Customs House Preventive Team around 2:30pm yesterday. However, a search inside the vehicle led to the seizure of the gold bars taped to the seat next to the driver’s. “After an initial interrogation, Billal said a trolley man named Amjad gave him the tape-wrapped packet. Amjad was to pick up the packet after it was outside the airport.” Customs officials attempted to detain Amjad, but he fled, said the customs officials said, adding, legal action will be taken against him.
