Governor of Russia’s Kemerovo resigns over deadly mall fire

Nabin Talukder: The long-serving governor leader of the Russian district where a shopping center fire burnt many people alive, has stepped down from his post. Aman Tuleyev said resigning from representing Kemerovo was “the right, cognizant and just obvious choice” after the tragedy as he declared the move in a video addressing it on the regional administration’s website. A month ago, fire killed more than 60 people, most of them were children, reports the BBC. Thousands of people dissented in the fallout of the disaster over claimed wellbeing failings at the Winter Cherry shopping center. Investigators say the fire caution was broken and exits were blocked – and that security guards, who should help with any emergency evacuation, were among the first to escape when the fire broke out. Numerous children became victims because they were using entertainment facilities at the top of the shopping center, including a cinema whose entryways are said to have been locked.
