Bangladesh to sue Manila bank over $81 million heist

    Bang-ladesh has declared that it plans to sue a Philippines bank in the US court for damages over the 2016 heist of its central bank’s reserve.
    In February of last year, unidentified hackers, using fraudulent orders on the SWIFT payments system, stole $81 million from Bangladesh Bank’s account at the New York Fed, reports Bdnews24.The money was sent to accounts at Manila-based Rizal Commercial Banking Corp and then disappeared into the casino industry in the Philippines.At a media briefing in Dhaka yesterday, Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governor Abu Hena Mohd Razee Hassan stated that they have decided to start a lawsuit. The Federal Reserve Bank of New York and SWIFT will also be parties to a lawsuit to be filed with a court in New York, he added.
