Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is planning to go all-out in order to ensure that the presence of its leaders and activists in the capital on February 8 is marked by all. The gathering comes at a time right before the announcement of the verdict in a graft case against Khaleda Zia, triggering fresh political tension. BNP insiders have said that the party high ups have already given directives to its rank and file to take positions in different areas around Bakshibazar special court on that day at all costs so that they can stage a massive protest if Khaleda Zia is convicted, as reported by the UNB. Nevertheless, the party men have been instructed not to engage in violence, but to resist if police and ruling party activists attack.Awami League senior leaders said they have also instructed their party leaders and activists to be prepared there on the streets on the day so that their rival activists cannot create any ‘chaos’ over the court verdict.
