The US State Department’s security branch is asked to prepare a plan to prevent violent protests at US embassies and consulates ahead of Trump administration announcements of moving it’s embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. According to CNN reports, President Donald Trump might give an announcement on Tuesday that the US recognizes Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Trump is expected to sign a waiver to keep the US embassy in Tel Aviv for another six months but sources said that his administration will move the diplomatic mission to Jerusalem eventually. After Trump retweeted anti-Muslim videos on Wednesday, the Diplomatic Security Service which is charged to protect US posts and personnel overseas was already expecting protests at the embassy.
One senior official said that the situation has proved to be useful in planning for the Jerusalem embassy announcement even though no incidents were reported over the anti-muslim videos Trump retweeted. The official also said if there were protests then they will be prepared and will know where to take additional measures.
