The hipster coffee trend has recently spread to coffee shops around the world. It is no longer just a drink to energize you in the morning. These days when you walk into a coffee place you find several decorative (and expensive!) options to start your morning with. You have rainbow coffee, deconstructed coffee, single origin, house blend, cold drip, cold brew…the list is endless. Which kind of makes you wonder, is coffee is really about that morning caffeine shot anymore? With the increasing popularity of social media it wouldn’t be surprising to see someone ordering a fancy coffee just to put up its picture on instagram.
I personally believe that the herbal tea trend is a better alternative to the coffee trend. As an ardent lover of herbal teas, I can assure you that there are a wide variety of flavors to experiment from, generally at a cheaper rate than your everyday coffee from the local barista. What makes herbal teas cheaper is that it takes minutes to brew and does not require the skills of a professional barista (half of the reason why coffee is so expensive). Furthermore, if you crave caffeine in the morning, it can be obtained from the right kind of herbal tea, which is a lot better for your body.
If you’re a regular coffee drinker, then you know how a morning without coffee feels. You end up with a caffeine headache and low energy. Herbal teas don’t come with those withdrawal symptoms. Therefore to live efficiently, I think it’s time to really consider your morning drink. If you really do need an energy boost in the morning, try a cup of green tea. There are several blends that have the right caffeine content without making you experience withdrawal symptoms. Trust me, you’ll live a lot healthier and save a lot of money in the long run.
