When you look back, do you have fond memories of someone who inspired you to be a better person or challenged you to achieve something greater? Such people tend to have a major impact on the lives of others, but not all inspirational people are born that way. Being an inspiration to others is often a matter of changing how you think and how you relate to people.
•Inspire By Example: You can’t inspire others unless you exude enthusiasm yourself. To motivate and inspire people at work, show them you’re passionate about what you do. Other people will pick up on your enthusiasm and channel their energy into working harder too. Be an active and vital member of the team. In other words, lead by example.
•Have High Expectations for the People around You: When you expect more of people, they’ll give you more in return. Show them you have confidence in their abilities and reward their efforts with positive feedback and words of encouragement. When you have low expectations of other people and expect little of them – that’s exactly what they’ll give you. Show them you have high expectations and convey that to them. When other people know you believe in them, they’ll work even harder to live up to your expectations.
•Volunteer to Help Others: There’s nothing more inspiring to other people than giving freely of yourself for non-selfish purposes. How many times have you been inspired by someone selflessly giving their time to others? Find a cause you believe in and support it by offering your time. When you volunteer, you not only help and inspire other people, you get a different perspective on life and the needs of others.
•Don’t Be Afraid to Take Risks: Playing it safe all the time isn’t inspirational to others. What would ever be accomplished if everyone took the “safe” path in life? Be willing to take risks and stand up for what you believe. People won’t agree with you all the time, but they’ll respect your courage and willingness to stand behind your beliefs. When you aren’t afraid to stand for something, you give other people the courage to do the same – and that’s when great things are accomplished.
