Deftones front man Chino Moreno will play what is being billed as “the world’s first ever public performance inside the magma chamber of a volcano” in Iceland this weekend.
Moreno is taking part in the Secret Solstice festival in the north Atlantic country, which last year saw the the world’s first gig inside a glacier. The 42-year-old vocalist will perform in the subterranean volcanic chamber of the dormant Thrihnukagigur volcano, with the gig taking place 400ft underground.
The Deftones man will perform a special acoustic gig for just 20 people on Saturday (June 18), with tickets, which were being sold for 250,000 Icelandic krona (approx. £1380), having long sold out. The cost, which also permits entrance to the three day of festivities in the capital across the weekend, covers helicopter transport from Reykjavík (weather permitting), and refreshments inside the magma chamber.
