One of Bangladesh’s iconic bands since the past decade, Black is back with a new song and a promise of a new album to be released this year. Since the departure of Jon Kabir, the current lead singer of Indalo, Black has struggled to recruit a new front-man, leaving a trail of failed attempts with two different vocals over the last 3 or 4 years. Black finally recruited Rubayet Chowdhury, former singer of the band “Echoes” in March of 2015. Over the past year, Rubayet showed a lot of promise and the band finally decided to come up with an album.
Earlier this year, Black released their brand new song “Akkhep”. The band has been performing with the new line up since 2015 and expectations rose in the hearts of all the Black fans. The song came as a disappointment to a large share of their fan base. “Akkhep” pretty much consists of the same riff patterns that we have heard back when Jon was a part the band. The structure and transitions of the songs bears quite a fewsimilarities to “EiGaan”, a classic Black premise from back in the day. The intro starts with a bass line, the same “Verse-Pre Chorus- Chorus” and then a low dynamic bridge right after the solo, leading again to the chorus. You just cannot say that you haven’t heard this stuff before. Also the music video of Akkhep isn’t that much appealing and lacks concept. What’s admirable is the passion that drove Black to still continue after the departure of two important band members.
However, one song cannot vouch for the entire album, let’s hope that the rest of the album will live up to the expectations.
