It is in our nature to love nature (Unless you are a greedy capitalist). But the world is changing and so our lifestyles. It is not always easy preserve everything the way they are. Sometimes in coarse of time our actions change the ways and tweaks the nature. These Man-made alterations often put no positive effect, but sometimes costs a whole history of greatness. Such greatest unnatural but natural marvels are listed here –
1. The Amazon Basin!
The whole area was nourished, nurtured and such huge scale of forestation was done by the Natives who lived there centuries before. Sadly, when the Europeans invaded their land, these ‘savage’ men were mostly subject of their oppression. With little no care or respect for the place, they ruined lots of Amazon’s past greatness. Hell, Bolivians even changed the course of a river.
These talented natives of great agricultural skills, dug out terraces across the mountains of Peru and countless fishing ponds. Seeded the Amazon basin with fruit trees. They also fertilized the soil with the best known fertilizer ever found in history ‘Terra Preta’. The secret to its super-effectiveness is still unknown. There is still 10% of the basin area (Size of France) are covered in it. These lands’ rich dark soil is filled with microbes and fungi that hold onto nutrients, even the heavy rainfall.
2. Morning Glory Hot Spring of Yellowstone National Park
The present Morning Glory is nothing like the one before. Even in the pics from 1960’s the spring was deep blue! Then, how did it get tanned? Too much sunbathe?
Optical phenomena researchers from Montana State University studied the place and said, fifty years of indiscriminate littering has overwhelmed the subterranean piping. Greatly reduced the temperature of the spring, allowing a proliferation of yellow pigment-producing microbial mats grow.
3. Numerous Earthquakes
“Wasn’t Earthquakes supposed to be some natural calamity?” Well, calamity happens to balance out the nature. Thus, when we tamper with her, she growls back at us and brings stability.
Too much natural fuel extraction leaves cavities, then soon the ground above it just stumbles inward. Gazli oil field in Uzbekistan was tremor-free before the drilling began in 1962. This region was rocked by three 7.0 richter scale in an eight-year span.
The vast amount of reserved water in dams can exert high pressure enough to force liquids into narrow subterranean pockets. Swelling the ground to cause earthquake. 177 lives were lost in such accidents around India’s Koyna Dam. Fracking or pumping dirty water demolished Oklahoma in 2011. It loosened the bedrock of the area.
