Many graduates can relate to Anna Alaburda when it comes to finding employment after graduation. Alaburda, a graduate from San Diego’s Thomas Jefferson School of Law, stands out of options and has decided to sue her former law school, 8 years after graduation. Right after graduation, she had high hopes of finding work as an attorney. However, after faxing her CV to over 150 law firms, she failed to attain suitable employment. Alaburda accuses the school of inflating the graduates’ success statistics and presenting misleading figures to the US News and World Report. She also charges her former school of affirming that 92.1% of its graduates in 2009 and 2010 were able to find employment, but the argument was made including numbers with part-time jobs. Lawyers representing the school argue that Alaburda failed to put a hard enough effort to land a job and that 150 applications spaced out over 8 years is not a lot. In her defense, Anna has been working hard with headhunters to find employment, but then again, huge gaps in employment would not be overlooked by any employer. The fact that Alaburda graduated with honors and passed the California Bar Exam on her first attempt, demonstrates her dedication to her dream of becoming an attorney. Anna is just trying to step up for all other frustrated graduates unable to find employment.
