Scientific Evaluation of Internet Trolls

    It is very common to come by an internet troll every day. Whether it is a furious debate on a Naila Nayem’s Facebook post or a long hate-speech on a random YouTube video. They know the act is total nonsense. Still, what sick pleasure do they get out of it? A group of scientists recently studied over 1200 users to identify the percentage of trolls among the ones over-reacts on the internet. They found only over 5.6% of them turn out to be real trolls by heart. These special group of people showed high level of psychopathy, narcissism and sadism. Simply to put it, set of dark traits. Psychopathy It may resemble sexual deviance and criminals. Sometimes, certain life events or stress can trigger this as well. Still, the minds of trolls can go very sick digging out crude imaginations. Narcissism This is the most common trait among internet troll. It is seen among them that, virtual acknowledgement and attention really drives them. Kind of like winning a trophy. They become more and more skilled at acting out as trolls when people feed them with replies. Doesn’t matter how sane the comment might be. Trolls will reply you with another much more incomprehensible or nonsensestatement. Truly stupidity knows no boundary. As both Mark Twain and George Carline says, they will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience. Sadism Lastly, it is the driving urge for the trolls. It is a common response to human when we hurt someone, instantly we feel a sense of guilt. But not sadists. Their sadism actually feeds off of the suffering of others. It is not a personally developed mentality. It can be caused by the environment around them while growing. Whether inflicting pain on others or on own self, or just by watching others suffer, sadism affected people gets a cruel pleasure even without their conscious. Trolls among themselves have huge community for sharing same humor and attitude toward others. Much like the joker, these people just enjoys seeing the world burn. In this case, cyber bullying and abusing.
