Mujahidul Islam Selim, President of Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) has invited everyone to unite and protest against Tonu’s murder or else oppressors will gain more power. He made these comments during the symbolic hunger strike organized by CPB’s Women Cell was underway in front of the National Press Club.
Selim stated, “Oppression against women is getting more warped day by day. Although it was thought that women would be free afterachieving Independence, the safety of women is gradually decreasing. Women are being maltreated every day in various places of the country, especially incidents of murdering women after rape. This is even severe then how women were oppressed during 1971.”
CPB presidium member Laxmi Chakrabarty said, “Women from every walk of life are in danger today. The protectors have become our attackers today. The government could keep their promises made to the people. The police have to more humane. The protest will go on until Tonu’s murderers are brought to justice. We have to take a stand notwithstanding our own divides.”
