A new writ filed with the Supreme Court challenges a section of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Rules-2006. The writ says, according to the section 4 of the DMP rules-2006, police’s recent decision to collect tenant information is invalid. The writ was filed by advocates Ainun Nahar Siddiqa, SM Enamul Haque and Amit Dasgupta.
Section 4(B) of DMP Rules-2006 says, “DMP police has the right to take quick action wherever a crime takes place within the metropolitan city.” Barrister Anik R. Haque, council of the writ appliers said, “According to this section, the police cannot ask the landlords to give them information on the tenants. It goes against the constitution.” He also informed that the writ may get a hearing this week. Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Husain and Justice AKM Shahidul Haque will be forming a bench for the hearing of this writ.
The High-Court has already rejected a similar writ that challenged the police’s right to collect tenants’ information.
