A bill titled ‘Payra Port Project (Land Acquisition) Bill, 2016’ was passed in Parliament on Wednesday paving the way to acquire land for the implementation of the country’s third seaport. Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif moved the Bill in the House and it was passed by voice vote. According to the Bill, there is no scope to change the classification of a piece of land after being served a notice by the deputy commissioner for its acquisition.
