If you are in/want a relationship it is quite obvious you would look or appreciate certain factors within your partner. While some prefer partners who love to travel others prefer introvert peers. While some believe that love is the most important element to survive in a relationship others feel the need of trust, honesty and respect to carry on. These personality traits vary from person to person, depending on the respondent.

    Respect
Research has found that respect in a relationship has a stronger effect and leaves behind a better relationship satisfaction. When people were asked to define respect in a relationship words like moral, conduct, considerateness and honesty came up. Without mutual respect it is crucial to maintain a successful relationship.

    Honesty and Trustworthiness
Dishonesty can precipitate the end of a relationship but increased honesty is linked with healthier relationship outcomes and better overall well-being. More “authentic” men and women engaged in healthier relationship behaviors such as more self-disclosure, more trust, and more constructive responses to conflict. They also found that these positive behaviors were related to more positive relationship outcomes such as greater commitment and relationship satisfaction. Trust and honesty can result on a more stable relationship.

The Big 5 and Similarity in Personality
Many of the “Big 5” personality characteristics are associated with relationship satisfaction. Agreeableness (friendliness), conscientiousness (diligence), and extraversion (outgoingness) were all positively associated with relationship satisfaction. Research shows that couples with similar personalities on the Big 5 characteristics are more likely to maintain fulfilling romantic relationships.

Traits Associated with Worse Relationship Outcomes
Research shows that neuroticism, narcissism, and a lack of conscientiousness are often related with negative relationship outcomes. Manifestation of anger, anxiety, depression, mood swings will exacerbate negative relationship behaviors on both partners. The elevated feeling of self- worth and entitlement or high levels of narcissism intensifies the chances of infidelity in martial relationship.

    Both Personalities Matter
Relationship success is determined by your personality and your significant other’s. The quality of your relationship may be enhanced if you and your partner both possess positive personality characteristics such as mutual respect, honesty, and trustworthiness and start to actively work with equal cooperation and enthusiasm.
