Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Kader said on Sunday that the death of Japanese citizens who were working for the Metrorail Project will not affect the project. “Their demise will not affect the project. The Japanese government knows the attack on the Gulshan cafe is part of a global terror scheme.”
Obaidul Qader said so while he was monitoring activities of the vigilance teams and BRTA moblie court in the Syadabad Bus terminal.
Obaidul also informed that, a team representing the project financiers, the Japan International Cooperation Agency or JICA, has arrived in Dhaka for discussions with the government.
He earlier stated that the Japanese citizens killed in the Gulshan cafe attack were surveyors for Dhaka’s Metrorail project.
They were working for the Route-1 and Route-5 of the project, reported bdnews24.com.
Seven Japanese citizens who were killed in the Gulshan restaurant attack are Ogasawara, Tanaka Hiroshi, Shakai Yuku, Kurusaki Nubuhiri, Okamura Makato, Shimudhuira Rui, and Hashimato Hideiko.
The Japanese government planned to send a plane to Bangladesh this Sunday to bring family members of the victims. The Japan embassy officials in Dhaka identified them using photos of their dead bodies and personal belongings, the report said quoting Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga.
Japan’s Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida has told reporters in Tokyo that the government will fly the families of the victims to Dhaka. He said the Japanese government will do its best to support the relatives and that urgent preparations were under way so that all of them can leave for the Bangladeshi capital early on Sunday evening, according to state-run television NHK.
