Elated that a Duke University Professor has been removed from her post after she sent an e-mail to students demanding that they speak English and saying that speaking Chinese could lead to serious consequences.As a foreign person living in America, I am elated to hear that this woman has been stopped in her tracks. She is the perfect portrayal of someone who is ignorant, narrow minded and xenophobic.
She is discriminating against international students, and she is quite clearly a racist.
My friends disagree – they have argued with me until they are blue in the face and they say that she is only trying to assist them in their comprehension of the English language, by trying to encourage them to speak in English when in the Faculty areas or any professional setting.
