“Boys Over Flowers”, the 2009 hit Korean Drama series that had a two season long run, still continues to make waves in Asian Pop Culture. The iconic K-drama set the standard for more dramas to come, and its characters now hold irreplaceable positions in our hearts. To the fans who only recently started watching Korean dramas, the awkward camera angles and the slightly mainstream plot make “Boys Over Flowers” appear obsolete.Despite all that, the series is still one of the most viewed Korean dramas of ALL TIME (two of our reporters have already watched this series over a few hundred times). Thanks to mass distribution via KBS World, DramaFever, Hulu, and accessibility on services like Amazon, “Boys Over Flowers” is an omnipresent series.
Let’s have a flashback session! You are a high school student from a poor family with four stinkin’ rich best friends. One of them is a musical prodigy, the second is a renowned potter (not the Harry kind), another is the son of a powerful mob leader, and of course, what is a clichéd Korean drama series without thespoiled rich brat who will inherit one of the country’s biggest conglomerates.
Boys over Flowers is the king of clichés, I won’t lie. **SPOILER! SKIP NEXT SENTENCE IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED IT YET!** The fiancée that Go Jun Pyo’s (Lee Min Ho) family chose for him had a lion as a pet, for crying out loud! However, the drama executes this clichés so perfectly that you cannot even complain. It is as if even the actors are having a laugh at absurdity along with you.
The drama did not have a single dull moment. That being said, you will most likely be hooked from the first episode. You were either laughing at all the crazy antics of the characters, or having anxiety attacks over the plot twists and unexpected turn the show had taken in the second season.
