The High Court has directed government authorities to ensure status quo on the earth filling and encroachment in water bodies and khash land being done by at least 24 housing companies near Purbachal.
The court also directed the authorities to submit a report after complying with the order in two months.
The HC bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal passed the order yesterday after hearing a writ petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.
The petitioner’s lawyer Advocate Manzil Morshed told The Daily Star that the housing companies cannot encroach and subsequently degrade the environment near Purbachal following the High Court order.
