A live action movie adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa’s manga series was rumored to being in process. The series will be called Fullmetal Alchemist and to avoid any confrontation or criticism, the film will cast a whole Japanese team.
“The cast is completely Japanese, but the location is Europe,” informs Sori to Fusion.
“However, their race
and ethnic group isn’t articulated in a definite form.
This is an alternate history where alchemy is not portrayed as supernatural and Europe just has a vaguely different name.”
Ghost in the Shell is not the only high profile release to come under fire for “whitewashing” lately, with Marvel also taking flak for the casting of white actress Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One in Marvel’s upcoming superhero origin story Doctor Strange.
